About The Hotel

There is a wide variety of accommodation and high prices in Kenmare so finding that something in between can sometimes be difficult but I found just the place.

Muxnaw Lodge is a lovely gabled house, a former Hunting Lodge built in 1801 ideally situated very close to the town on the Castletownbere Road. Muxnaw is a homely but understatedly classy establishment nestled on 3 acres of fine gardens, complete with its own all weather tennis court, and enjoying outstanding views of the Kenmare River and suspension bridge. Tranquil bedrooms are all different, furnished with beautiful antiques and all have tea and coffee making facilities. Its success is a credit to the wonderful hospitality of its hostess, Hannah Boland, as well as the comforts provided. Hannah knows the area like the back of her hand and delights in mapping out routes and setting her guests off on the proper track for the day. I have indeed seen her spend many an afternoon, after she has served the most delectable afternoon tea, chatting with her guests and pouring over maps and routes, planning the remainder of their holiday.

Kenmare has any number of restaurants to tickle one’s taste buds and Hannah will mark your card as to which are the best and most suitable for you. You can leave the car at Muxnaw and just stroll down the town without wondering whether you have to worry about having that second drink before you drive home. Dinner is available with advance notice and beautiful salmon cooked in the big Aga cooker is one of Hannah’s specialities. There is no wine licence so you are more than welcome to bring your own. Breakfast is superb, juices, fruit, and cereals with delicious breads and followed by eggs any way you like or the Full Irish. Hannah’s gentle generosity constantly shines through.

You will really feel welcome in this excellent, good value, period house in Kenmare.
