About The Restaurant

For great food and drink in a stunning setting, look no further than the Newpark Hotel on the Castlecomer Road, just on the edge of Kilkenny City. Set on 25 acres of beautifully maintained parkland with gorgeous gardens, a petting farm and even an interactive dinosaur-themed park, it’s a perfect spot for a day out, or indeed a vacation, with the family.

For light bites like sambos and soup, head for their Lobby Lounge, where they also serve Afternoon Tea daily but must be booked 24 hours in advance. For a more substantial engagement, their superb Scott’s Bar & Brasserie is the place to be. Traditionally decorated and featuring intimate dark wood booths and rich red furnishings, both the atmosphere and the staff here are inviting and warm.

Starters at Scott’s feature tasty dishes like Ardsallagh goats cheese tartlets, their Newpark seafood chowder topped with puff pastry bites not to mention their delicious buffalo wings with celery and Cashel blue cheese aioli. A wild Atlantic salmon and cod fishcake is sure to please, as are their BBQ pork belly ribs with celeriac remoulade and parsnip tuille.

For the mains, carnivores will be licking their lips at the thought of an 8oz Irish Black Angus fillet steak served with herb infused caramelised onions and sautéed chestnut mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, watercress & wild garlic pesto, and crispy fried potato noodles. There’s beer-battered fish and chips with mushy peas, tartare sauce and an Asian dipping sauce, as well as slow-braised lamb shank with Morteau sausage, smoked garlic and pearl barley casserole, and creamed potato. Grilled teriyaki salmon is set to impress, as is an Asian vegetable stir fry, available with or without meat, and, for vegans, they have an excellent 7oz plant based steak with rainbow cherry tomatoes, treble cooked chips and vegan butter.

For dessert, think rum-soaked bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice-cream, a banoffee Eton mess of bananas, meringue, caramel sauce, roasted pecans and caramel cream, or maybe a good old Knickerbocker Glory with vanilla ice-cream, fresh melon & raspberries, strawberry jelly, whipped cream and fruit coulis. They do an excellent Irish artisan cheese plate also.

For an al fresco affair, it would be tough to beat the hotel’s stunning Terrace, which features a state of the art retractable roof and heating, making it an all-season space. Serving a selection of small plates, pizzas and mains, along with an excellent rotisserie menu, The Terrace is perfect for a lazy lunch with friends or even a special evening meal.

With great food and service throughout the property, the Newpark Hotel is most definitely a great place to eat.
