About The Hotel

When I go abroad to other cities I love to stay in houses frequented by those in the know in those countries and not in some faceless International hotel.   You not only get the feel of the City you are in, intermingle with the locals, you also feel somehow safe and secure – a home away from home.

That perfectly describes Ariel House which could not be more perfectly located on one of Dubin’s most loved and revered roads – Lansdowne Road – in the heart of prestigious and upmarket D4.  The location does not get any better.  How many times we have walked up and down Lansdowne Road to rugby and admired the beautiful Victorian three storey red bricked houses – in fact Ariel House is made up of three of those fine houses.

It is owned by the McKeown family, who did a major refurb in 2002 to create this Great Place to Stay.  Jennie McKeown owns and runs the family business with the able and very professional assistance of Deirdre McDonald, General Manager.  Both are highly trained with Jennie having worked in the 5 Star Four Seasons Hotel Group.  Her other passion is food, so you can be assured the breakfast has all the five star tweaks.  Deirdre holds an MBS in Tourism Management from U.C.D.

Being a Victorian property, features include high ceilings, bay windows, Flemish brick bonding, stained glass windows, slate roofs and sash windows.  Bedrooms are lavishly furnished in a style to suit the period.   Spacious family rooms offer double and twin beds, there are standard rooms, and superior rooms or you can even have a magnificent Junior Suite complete with Waterford Crystal chandeliers and either splendid four poster beds, or kingsize beds.

There are so many nice little details at Ariel House.  There is a Honesty Bar, a turndown service, complimentary parking for guests, 24 hour concierge service, and you can enjoy Afternoon Tea in the drawingroom – isnt that just wonderful.

The location is insurpassed, right beside the Aviva Stadium, the R.D.S. Shwgrounds and beside Lansdowne Road DART Station.  The Aircoach stops just nearby on Pembroke Road and there are so many good restaurants in Ballsbridge for you to stroll out to in the evenings.  The centre of Dublin is only ten minutes away, likewise the Grand Canal Theatre.

Breakfast is a real treat, the sort of breakfast you love to face when you are away.  They have a brilliant cold buffet display of fruits, juices, cereals, charcuterie and cheeses with pickles, smoked salmon, and great ham.  Apricot, prune and sultana compote comes with lemon and honey whilst a fresh fruit coupe has pineapple, Honeydew melon and grapes, topped with natural yoghurt, sprinkled with muesli and honey.   They do delicious luxurious creamy porridge with stewed fruits or chopped walnuts and fresh cream.  You can have your eggs, poached, fried, scrambled, with or without smoked salmon.  You can have the Full Irish or the  Veggie Fry up, or indeed the Pancake Stack with grilled bacon and Maple syrup – oh yes and they do gorgeous French Toast with crème fraiche and Winter berries.

Now, isn’t Ariel House just the perfect place to stay.
