Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Clancy's Bar & Restaurant

Padraig Hennessy lived in the New Jersey area for twenty-eight years and “on the heels of several hospitality ventures in the New York City area” wanted to bring his family back home to raise his children in Ireland. This is a man who knows the hospitality industry inside out and he has added a new dimension to Youghal dining.  A lot of money has gone into transforming what was the Railway Bar of yore into a contemporary Gastropub offering restaurant style food at pub prices.   Bright airy and spacious, the railway theme has been highlighted throughout including using sleepers in the décor, and having a model railway above the bar.
The provenance and ethos of the food here is excellent.  Head Chef Nick Davey is ex Shanahan’s on the Green, the Chop House at Lismore, the Cliff House in Ardmore, and Dunbrody House.  A la carte starters include a beautiful silky seafood chowder with chunks of hake, salmon, smoked haddock and mussels served with superb homemade brown bread.  A bucket of Two Mile prawns comes with saffron aioli whilst foraged wild mushrooms are on toast with garlic butter.   Smoked haddock croquettes come with roasted red pepper relish and  a salad garnish whilst the ever popular calamari is there but served with a delicious garlic saffron aioli and garden salad.
