Our Latest Great Place to Eat - Kirby's Korner Bar

Thursday 29 November 2012

We spend quite a lot of time in Kinsale, which we have loved for many many years, and is a second home to us.  Consequently we are out and about the countryside quite a bit, in that area, always heading for somewhere or other.
Kirby’s Korner is in Ballinhassig, not far from Kinsale, and on the main road to West Cork.  It is a great pub, very much part of the local community, with always something happening by way of sporting occasions, off the cuff sing songs, weekly games of cards, and plenty of craic.  It is a cosy place with an open fire and plenty of friendly people.
Apart from the bar, Diana and Bill Kirby have a comfortable contemporary style restaurant with high vaulted ceiling, offering a very wide range of excellent eclectic food.   Lots of the popular dishes are there, including crispy duck spring rolls with oriental vegetables, and ginger, coriander and sweet chilli dip to start.  Other starters include baked goat’s cheese tartlet which has a light pastry case filled with roasted vegetables, pesto and is topped with Ardsallagh goats cheese.  The ever-popular chicken wings are there, in large and small sizes, tossed in chilli sauce and served with a Blue Cheese Dip.  They also do lovely homemade fresh seafood chowder and a soup of the day.
