Mallow is a very pretty historic town on the River Blackwater about 20 miles or so north of Cork City. It is a town I have always liked – I always think of it as mellow Mallow with its lush surroundings – I also have to say the same of nearby Kanturk – great Market Towns with a rich food history.
At the heart of Mallow’s food scene is Diarmuid O’Riordan’s excellent Peppers at the White Deer – a contemporary restaurant producing excellent food, sourcing the best of local seasonal produce – and there is plenty of that in the surrounding area – cooked and served in an eclectic Modern Irish style. Located just beside the gates of Mallow Castle the building was previously Golden’s Pub, O’Riordan knows what he is about here and gives great value for money. All of his local suppliers are listed and you are getting the best!
