Description

Perfectly situated, right at the heart of Limerick City Centre, the supurb Old Quarter Café, Pub & Townhouse is definitely worth a visit. Established in 1995, it’s been a hotspot for food, drink, fun and frolics ever since.

The hip and hot retro subway style pub cum restaurant at The Old Quarter features a long stylish bar with art-deco style tiles and a curved rail running overhead making you feel like you’re in New York in the 1920’s. The exposed brickwork that surrounds you only adds to the cool vibes. Grab a seat at one of the booths, or outside in their large all-weather veranda, and peruse their great menus which offer a wide selection throughout the day.

Breakfast is served from 9am-12pm and includes a super full Irish, pancakes & waffles, as well as the ever-popular eggs benny. There’s a substantial breakfast bap too as well as a great vegetarian breakfast which includes fried egg, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, criss-cross potatoes and toast.

In the afternoon, they have an excellent lunch menu with something for everyone. Carnivores will have their fill with slow-cooked bbq ribs, steak sambos with rustic garlic bread, sautéed onions and mushrooms and a side of fries, or how about some finger-licking chicken wings smothered in sticky BBQ or hot and spicy thoughts. Fishophiles can enjoy their gillty pleasures too (Geddit?), with some delicious mussels cooked in a tasty white wine and garlic sauce served with soda bread, or perhaps a soul of their soul warming homemade seafood chowder. There’s pasta dishes, fajitas and lots lots more. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it). Oh, and they do great sambos and paninis as well.

Their evening a la carte kicks things up another notch with offerings like a 10oz rib eye served with Portobello mushrooms, onion rings, creamy mashed potatoes and a choice of garlic butter or pepper sauce, as well as grilled fresh seabass with a chorizo, leek and sun-dried tomato risotto.

For desserts, dig into an Eton mess or a delicious sticky toffee pudding.

The drinks menu here, as you might expect, is excellent with a great selection of cocktails, new and old, ranging from mojitos, old fashioneds and cosmos to their own creations like a salted caramel espresso martini or a pornstar on the beach, plus a wide array of whiskeys and gins as well.

Do note that the restaurant closes at 8pm Mon-Sat and 6pm on Sundays, making way for the night-time vibes, and, on Friday and Saturday evenings, The Old Quarter offers great live music performed by regular local Irish bands that always put on a good show. For up to date info on their live music line ups, check out their social media.
