About The Restaurant
For great food these days, you don’t have to be sat in the dining room of a five-star hotel, dressed to the nines in-keeping with the white napery, chandeliers and approval of the Maitre d’. More and more, we’re seeing superb culinary fare being produced by enterprising chefs and entrepreneurs at markets and stalls or in old shipping containers. In fact, some of the best food in the country nowadays is being served from food trucks at side of the road.
Located on the banks of the River Lennon in Ramelton on the Wild Atlantic Way, Chef Johnny Patterson’s popular Johnny’s Ranch food truck has foodies flocking to it by the bucket load. His ethos is simple – keep it fresh and keep it local – and, simple or not, with Lennonside beef and seafood from Albatross in Killybegs, he’s dishing up some of the best gourmet fast food going.
Johnny, a fully trained chef, has worked in high end restaurants like Nancy’s Barn in Ballyliffin, as well as Belle’s Kitchen, where we first encountered him, and the Rathmullen House Hotel, but like most chefs he dreamt of going his own way. And so, with lots of enthusiasm not to mention talent, Johnny took his food truck to the streets of Ramelton and has received rave reviews ever since.
All food is cooked to order, and the menu features the likes of freshly-battered Killybegs haddock with mushy peas; a Lennonside steak burger with a dressed salad and cheese; as well as breaded chicken goujons – all of which come with hand-cut chips. You could have a Lennonside beef Strogonoff or maybe a chicken stir fry, or if it’s smaller bites that you’re after, grab a portion of Johnny’s homemade onion rings or some of his finger lickin’ chicken wings.
So, if you find yourself in the O’Donnell county, on the hunt for great grub without any nonsense, then make a beeline for Johnny’s Ranch.
