About The Restaurant

We all love Italian food, I think that’s pretty well a given, but when it is really good Italian food,  that is even better. 

Sabrina Amodeo is an Italian born in South Africa.  With parents who hailed from Genova and Venice, and passionate about the food of their homeland, there was no way Sabrina was not going to be immersed in the foods of Italy.  “It was always an integral part of our lives and lifestyle”, says Sabrina.

She came to live in Ireland some twelve years ago with her two daughters and recognised the opening for a really good Italian Restaurant.  She didn’t just go about it in a simple way, she opened two establishments – Tuscany Bistro in the suburbs of Limerick, and Café Latte, a small Italian Coffee shop in the heritage town of Killaloe.  Not only that, but her salad dressing proved so popular in the restaurant and cafe, that to coin a phrase she ‘bottled it’ and it is a hot seller under the Amodeo Salad Dressing label.  The business further snowballed into the catering sector and they cater for small and large functions.

Tuscany Bistro is set in the heart of Annacotty in the Newtown Shopping Centre.  Bright, contemporary and modern, it is perfect for any time of the day or evening, for a delicious pasta or pizza plus a whole lot more.   Starters include all the popular stalwarts including Bruschetta Verde, Bianca and Rossa – green, white and red – the colours of Italy.  Verde has a topping of grilled courgettes, aubergines and roast peppers, topped with the famous Amodeo Salad Dressing, Bianca is topped with tomatoes, Mozzarella slices and pesto, whilst Rossa has finely chopped tomatoes and red onion with garlic and olive oil.   Carpaccio of beef is classically Italian drizzled with olive oil, fresh lemon, rock salt, cracked black pepper, Parmesan shavings and rocket.  That is a favourite dish of Brendan’s.  I always love a good Parmigiana di Melanzane – lightly fried aubergine slices, layered with fresh tomato sauce and cheese, and baked.  They also do delicious pan-fried scallops served with a fish veloute, crisp rocket, and finished with pesto dressing.   Another very popular item is the charcuterie selection – Antipasto Misto – which can be had for one or two people – with smashing Italian salame, Parma ham, Coppa, and Mortadella, served with green and black olives, sunblush tomatoes and toasted Italian bread. 

There is a wide selection of pasta dishes.  Pasta alla Norma has spaghetti served with tomato sauce with strips of fried aubergine, onions, garlic and fresh herbs.  The classic Spaghetti Bolognese is there as is Tagliatelle al Salmone.  Penne e Polpette is always popular with my boys – penne served with juicy meatballs – whilst I love Tagliatelle Alfredo – ribbons of pasta with a delicious sauce made with leeks, garlic, ham, walnuts and a dash of brandy.  Another favourite is Penne Marinara – with a tomato sauce of seafood, onions, garlic, fresh herbs and white wine.   Main courses include a prime Irish fillet of beef, with a choice of garlic or pepper sauce, served with an option of crisp garden vegetables or salad, plus a hoice of either baby potatoes or patate gratinate.  I probably don’t have to tell you which I fancy!   Fettine di Pollo al vino has chicken breast in a white wine and cream sauce, whilst Fettine al Limone has a delicate fresh lemon and cream sauce. 
There is a choice of ten pizzas from Honolulu to Campagnola, Goats Cheese to Arrabbiata.  You can follow up then with traditional sinful Tiramisu or Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake, or maybe Tuscany Pavlova or Bailey’s and Walnut Icecream.  They serve Illy coffees from Mocha to Macchiatos, and they also have an excellent selection of eclectic wines.   Look out too for their Great Value Menu.  There are lots of options at Tuscany Bistro and, another point I like about is that they have Gluten Free Pasta and other options.
