About The Restaurant
Kilkenny City is a hot hot destination for young and old alike. It has a zing and zest in mediaeval surroundings that are second to none. I had visiting journalists over from the U.S. during the summer and they were gobsmacked when they visited the new Langton House Hotel in Kilkenny. Their eyes were out on stalks when they saw the restaurant and the bars – “more stunning than anything in New York”, they gushed.
The Langton name has always been synonymous with good food in Kilkenny. Ask anyone and they will tell you the same. In fact the “Edward Langton’s Bar “ won the Black & White overall Pub of the Year Award a record four times. I am mentioning this merely to tell you that Langton’s have always been conscious of providing excellent service and quality but, if I said the Langton Group had moved up a notch or two, that would be putting it mildly, for they have moved up into a new stratosphere with their fabulous Langton House Hotel, their visually stunning Langton Room restaurant, and their uber cool new Carrigan’s Bar which has been designed by fashionable London based Irish designer David Collins.
Situated right at the heart of the City near the Castle, Langton’s has fab new oversized rooms and suites to accommodate all needs be it the Penthouse Suites, Executive Suites, Club Family Suites, Superior Garden Suites, Double/Twin Rooms….each and every one stylishly equipped for today’s discerning clientele. There is cable television, mini-bars, private safes, surround sound stereo entertainment systems, 24 hour room service and wireless internet access (request at check-in). Ever moving forward, for 2009 Langton’s now has four new rooms in an adjacent 18th c building which includes a new tearoom, a contemporary garden and a theatre – also all David Collins designed.
Believe me you are never going to be bored at Langton’s for in the hotel they have the 67 Bar where throughout the week they have live entertainment through traditional music to bands and dj’s. Never a dull moment. There is also Harry’s Bar, the Middle Bar and the beautiful Ballroom Bar. You will never be hungry for there is food everywhere but the restaurant, now that is a stunning room and good value. Think of food like succulent melt in the mouth braised shank of lamb served on a mash with its own juices, or maybe Dublin Bay Prawns in garlic butter, or with white wine sauce, which comes with a Caesar salad or even panfried Barbary duck with Grand Marnier..Yum. You can’t do your tour of Kilkenny, never mind, your tour of Langton’s emporia without visiting The Marble City Bar – its ab fab.
