Description

A sister, or perhaps more aptly, brother restaurant to the superb Queen Stop in Rathmines, Boss Stop on South Great George’s Street is an ideal spot if you enjoy Asian Fusion. South Great George’s Street, in case you don’t already know, is the hottest dining area in Dublin right now. Blending authentic flavours with prime locally source ingredients, the Head Chef here has more than 40 years of experience, and it shows both in the presentation and the taste.

The atmosphere here is warm and inviting, from the attractive interior décor to the smiles and helpful service of the staff, which matters just as much if not more than the food. But don’t worry, the food here is a delight. There’s a great selection of Starters/Small Plates to choose from whether you’re looking to kick off your meal the old fashioned way or perhaps would prefer to order a variety of dishes for the table to share. Freshly hand-wrapped pan-fried dumplings can be had with a variety of fillings - Beef, pork, prawn, chicken or veg – while fresh Dim Sum comes by way of Seafood or Beef Siu Mai, each carefully filled with appropriate accompaniment’s, seasoned and steamed to perfection. There’s a range of tapas dishes too, such as Golden Soft Shell Crab, lightly battered and finished with house made yuzu citrus sauce; or Corn & Pork ribs, tender ribs slow-braised and deep fried until crispy, tossed in a classic Cantonese and pepper seasoning. There’s popcorn chicken, crispy calamari, veg spring rolls and lots more as well.

For the mains, there’s even more to choose from, with Chef Specialties including a host of fab dishes like slow-braised melt-in-the-mouth pork belly layered with fragrant preserved mustard greens; sizzling beef ribs with aromatic Chinese herbs and spices and aged black vinegar; not to mention their Gong Bao Ji Ding, a classic Kung Pao style stir fry with chicken, cashew nuts, chilli and peppers, and finished in a homemade sweet and spicy sauce. They have a Sichuan menu too with dishes such as Hunan Spicy Chicken stir-fried with fresh red and green chillis; Mapo Tofu in a rich spicy bean paste sauce; as well as a Spicy Beef Mala Pot with aromatic Sichuan spices, chilli, garlic and cumin, served with organic Chinese style cauliflower and potatoes. Meanwhile, their signature Cantonese roasted dishes in includes the classic Peking duck with pancakes as well as Hong Kong Char Siu of tender premium pork , delicately marinated and roasted to perfection. If you really want to make a statement, go for the Boss Stop Signature Roasted Whole Duck for the table. You have to order it in advance, but this premium 2400g Silver Hill quacker is sure to impress once placed centre stage. There’s wok-fried noodle dishes to choose from also, along with various veggie sides, rice etc.

For dessert, think chocolate brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and fresh strawberries, or maybe some Tang Yuan – fried glutinous rice balls with a crispy golden exterior and a soft interior packed with sweet fillings.

Open till late, they offer an abridged version of the menu from 10pm-11.30pm, and at lunchtime they have an excellent menu of signature Boss Boxes, soup & noodles, plus rice and noodle dishes as well. And let’s not forget their generous selection of cocktails from classic mojitos and espresso martinis to Dublin sours, kissy faces and one they just call the Bee’s Knees.

So, it would seem, whatever the time and whatever the occasion they have it more than covered at Boss Stop.
