About The Restaurant
Yet another branch of the superb beloved chain of Pakistani restaurants, Daata Sandymount is an utter delight. Cool and casual yet thoroughly atmospheric throughout, the Daata crew never fails to impress, least of all when it comes to food. The décor is beautifully authentic and immersive, particularly their atrium style area, which would leave you think you were dining al fresco on the streets of Karachi.
Menus vary across locations, but expect to kick off with small bites dishes like jumbo tandoori prawns in rock salt, fresh lime, mustard seed and a black pepper marinade; tender lamb chops slow cooked in garlic, turmeric and chilli and served with a mint yoghurt chutney; or favourites like vegetable samosas, onion bhajis, and their finger lickin’ grilled chicken wings.
For the mains, all of which are served with pilau rice or plain naan, there’s plenty to choose from with delicious fragrant dishes like Balochi chicken, a rich, hearty green curry of spinach, mint, spring onion and yoghurt; or Lahori Lamb Karahi featuring tender lamb on the bone slow-cooked in ginger and Karahi masala, and topped with crispy onion. Their classic Chicken Tikka Masala is always popular as is their Famous Afghani Chicken with fresh tomatoes, fenugreek, black pepper and a hint of zesty lemon. Vegans/vegetarians are in for a treat with a great selection of suitable dishes available as sides or mains, like Bangahn Aloo, Saag Paneer, or their Daata’s House Black Dhaal offering whole Urid lentils slow-cooked for 48 hours in ghee, fenugreek, tomato puree, cream and Daata’s special garam Masala.
They do an excellent lunch menu here also on Saturday’s and Sunday’s also, perfect for the discerning local social set who expect nothing but the best, and will indeed get just that at Daata Sandymount.
