Sometimes we’re in such a hurry to get to our destinations that we can really miss out on some of the wonderful villages, restaurants and shops just off the motorways.
Years ago, in northern France, I came across a great little book about travelling the D-roads, taking you through pretty little villages, with stops at various cafés, markets, old churches, war graves, Logis hotels, chambres d’hotes and, for those with deep pockets, the odd château or two.
