Here, at the restaurant named in his honour, they draw inspiration from the tale, bringing his rebellious spirit to the plate as they tweak, twist and refine the traditional recipes of old, offering diners classic dishes with a modern touches. They’re not here to deconstruct or shock, they say, “instead, we take what has stood the test of time and introduce subtle refinements that elevate without overpowering.”

Warm and inviting, with an authentic atmosphere delivered by the traditional décor, the menu at Ne Zha is bursting with flavour from their handcrafted dumplings and delightful small plates to their selection of hearty mains. Their Asian Tapas menu is expansive, offering favourites like tempura prawns, vegetable/chicken spring rolls, salt & pepper calamari, plus crispy fried chicken wings. There’s sautéed okra stir-fried with garlic and a touch of chilli pepper, as well as battered crispy golden Enoki mushrooms with a hint of spice. Their Century Egg offer a traditional preserved duck egg with a creamy yolk and a savoury jelly-like white, while grilled eel comes glazed with a blend of soy, teriyaki and oyster sauce. The handcrafted dumplings are a major attraction, coming with various filling, the star of the show being their organic Wagyu dumplings delicately seasoned with Wang Shouyi’s traditional 13 spice blend.

As for the mains, they have a generous assortment of rice and noodle dishes that are sure to please, whether it’s the braised pork rice with Taiwanese-style pork belly on rice served with a fried egg and veg, or the salmon fried noodles with mixed veg and a savoury soy-based seasoning. Their beef brisket noodle soup is popular in its rich aromatic broth, as are the fried Udon dishes, with the thick chewy noodles being available with chicken, prawns or veg.
