Restaurant Review - The Purty Kitchen

Wednesday 28 May 2025
It’s terrace time by the sea, and so, with the wind in my hair, I set sail for what is known simply in my neck of the woods as The Purty. It was the first weekend of its heated and covered terrace, and being a mere 500m from my front door, it seemed the perfect spot for a sunny Saturday lunch. The historic, almost 300-year-old Purty Kitchen is located on the coastal Old Dunleary Road, close to the West Pier, the preferred haunt of sniffy locals for their discreet stretches and early morning trots… and who wouldn’t be caught dead on what they regard as the more ‘day trippery’ East Pier!
The Purty was bought in 2021 by Mark Heather and James Burgess who did a major refurb, adding a then new chef, and installing a Bertha charcoal oven. In 2023, a very nice new al fresco dining area ‘The Courtyard’ was added.
