Lucinda on Bourdain
Tuesday 18 August 2026
There have been pretenders. Some have stepped up to try and fill the void. Stanley Tucci staked a claim on Italy. Phil Rosenthal has affably bumbled his way around the world for eight seasons of Somebody Feed Phil. Matty Matheson of Just a Dash catches some of the vibe. Still there is a gap.
This month sees the release of Tony, a coming-of-age Bourdain biopic starring Dominic Sessa, who was fantastic in his breakthrough role in the Alexander Payne film The Holdovers, and looks to do a good job in this role, too.
The release of Tony prompted me to think about Bourdain’s impact on the culinary world, on the world of travel, tourism, and on me as a food writer.
