Having already brought plenty of Latin American colour and culture to Thomastown by way of his Tābú Tapas restaurant, with its cracking food and Día de los Muertos garden statues, chef Rodrigo González and his ecologist wife Dr Amanda Greer are taking on the Marble City with his new Santería Sandwich Club.

Set in the former Nóinín, which closed in April after two years citing ever-rising costs, it overlooks the River Nore in the shadows of the mighty Kilkenny Castle, with a frontage that’s now a myriad of cheerful candy colours. It’s a daytime spot and, planning on driving further south, it seemed perfect for a quick lunch en route. Having driven around in a circle twice, enviously watching people chomping away at high-top window-ledge tables, a parking space finally materialised.
