Description

A beacon of classic grandeur set amidst the beauty of one of Ireland’s most scenic locales, The Terrace restaurant at Summerhill House Hotel is indeed a great place to eat. Lovingly refurbished by the current owners, this restaurant is bright and welcoming and dripping with elegance.

With a reputation for wholesome high quality fare, the kitchen team work hard to prepare superb menus that celebrate the best of local and seasonal produce. The food is upmarket and refined, but without all the fuss and frippery.

They serve food at The Terrace throughout the day from breakfast through lunch and dinner, but for starters on the a la carte dinner menu, you can expect to see tempting options such as their bistro fish chowder served with homemade Guinness bread; Summerhill buffalo chicken wings in a house sauce with blue cheese dip; or perhaps Turkish Bazlama – homemade flatbread with baba ganoush, rocket and lemon oil.

The mains here are equally impressive, with succulent meaty offerings like a 10oz prime Irish Hereford striploin steak with triple cooked chips, confit onion and your choice of sauce, not to mention a delicious Irish Hereford beef burger with the works and a side of fries. Slow roast McCarren’s pork belly too, with creamed potato, baked apple, black pudding and a sticky cider jus is sure to have your mouth watering.

The seafood at The Terrace is excellent also – think pan-fried Atlantic cod with saffron baby tomatoes, clams, and a spiced coconut broth; or maybe a seasonal tempura of fresh fish, golden-fried and served with pea puree, chunky remoulade, grilled lemon and a side of chunky chips.

The menus also offer various vegan alternatives, such as with their striploin steak, as well as more dedicated dishes like their mushroom and lentil pappardelle pasta dish, a kind a vegetarian inspire Bolognese.

For dessert, indulge your sweet tooth with a chocolate and cranberry brownie with a salted caramel sauce, seasonal berries and some vanilla bean ice-cream; or perhaps a bread and butter pudding with warm custard and rum & raisin ice-cream. Their Gateaux Opera is a decadent delight with layers of almond sponge soaked in coffee, chocolate ganache, Grand Marnier and butter cream, while their Irish Farmhouse cheese board is indeed a pleasure as well.

The Lounge at Summerhill House Hotel is fab as well, perfect for a relaxed drink or two, or indeed for a bite, with a menu of casual daytime food to choose from. For some great al fresco eats, head for The Garden and savour the resplendent surrounds from the luxury of a heated, illuminated vantage point.

For great food in a luxurious setting with superb service to match, look no further than The Terrace at Summerhill House Hotel.
