Description

The Oak Room Restaurant in Cavan is a great spot to dine. The Chef Proprietor here is Norbert Neylon who, alongside his head chef Keith Hutton, has been delighting the denizens of Cavan and beyond with their stylish contemporary Irish fare. Bright, airy and modern throughout, the atmosphere at the Oak Room is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of space to breathe. The room itself has a clean open look, with stylish touches by way of the variety of light fixtures, some exposed brickwork, and lots of nods to its woody moniker with polished wood floors and bare bones wooden shelving and storage at and surrounding their attractive bar, which takes centre stage in the restaurant.

A la carte starters might include the likes of Donegal scallops with crispy pork cheek and an apple & celeriac slaw; goats cheese croquettes with pear, chicory and toasted seeds; or garlic and lemon prawns with curried cauliflower and grilled flatbread. Their Oak Room lemon chicken Caesar salad is popular, as is their confit Silverhill duck salad starter with smoked pancetta, peas and orange.

The mains here are fab sumptuous portions that still manage to be delicate and beautifully presented. Their herb crusted rack of Cavan spring lamb is a delight with goat’s cheese gnocchi and a mint & pea veloute, while their Gressingham duck breast with smoked date puree, pressed potato and a cherry jus is delicious as well. For fishy fans, they have a roast monkfish dish with black olive, crab and a shallot dressing, or, for the discerning carnivores out there, they have a great 21-day aged sirloin steak with roast red pepper and tomato, served with green peppercorn sauce and a side of chunky chips. All main courses include a serving of seasonal vegetables & potatoes.

To cap things off, they have some wonderful decadent desserts to choose from, such as a mango & passionfruit panna cotta with coconut sorbet and honeycomb; rhubarb & Wexford strawberry crumble, with raw cow’s milk ice-cream; or a dark chocolate delice with mandarin and a salted peanut crunch. They also have a selection of ‘Liquor Coffees’ for after dinner sipping.

If you prefer your menus meat-free, check out their great vegetarian and vegan menu with plenty to choose from like chargrilled cauliflower steak with tomato & roast red pepper salsa and herb oil; or red lentil dahl with mint & lemon yogurt.

If you’re planning an event in the near future, they also offer a catering service delivering to your desired location.

For a great meal in a stylish welcoming setting, look no further than the Oak Room Restaurant.
