Description

The Galmont Hotel, a short distance from Eyre Square and with wonderful romantic views out over Galway Bay is undoubtedly a Great Place To Stay, so it’s no surprise that the food and drink offerings here are top-drawer as well.

Their Marinas Grill is stylish and modern and is perfect for celebrations, dinner with friends or a romantic evening with your par amour. Striving to bring diners the best possible local produce around, cooked to perfection, the menu at Marinas offers a great cross section of casual and high end dishes. For the starters think classic prawn cocktail, chicken wings or Burren smoked salmon, as well the likes of seared Atlantic scallops or a slow-cooked duck egg with Gubbeen bacon vinaigrette and black pudding.

The mains have some properly meaty options from rib-eyes, sirloins and fillets to a French trimmed rack of Connemara lamb, roasted pork belly or roasted Skeaghnore duck breast. Their beef steaks are matured for at least 28 days and served with rosemary & garlic butter, béarnaise sauce, brandy and peppercorn sauce or a thyme jus, as well as a side of your own choosing. Fish fanatics will be pleased with an assortment of gill-ty pleasures from baked monkfish, to seared organic Clare Island salmon to their impressive Wild Atlantic Way platter. They also do a great build your own burger option with lots of bits to add on, including avocado, grilled red peppers and fried eggs.

The meat-free munchers havn’t been left out of affairs either, with great dishes like sweet potato korma, a celeriac and pear risotto, as well as a butternut squash and red pepper linguine rounding out the menu.

Don’t leave without trying one of their tasty Digestifs, as an extra treat, with Baileys coffee, a vanilla and hazelnut espresso martini, and a Caskmates Irish coffee all making the bill.

If, however, it’s a more casual laidback evening that you had in mind, head for their Coopers Bar & Lounge. Open throughout the day, bag a table by the open fire and take in the beautiful views of Lough Atalia, while you enjoy a selection of flavour packed salads, sandwiches and soup, along with great burgers and pasta options too. In the evening, their menu fills out with plenty of toothsome options from a 10oz select Irish sirloin served with chunky chips and onion rings to a 12” hand-stretched pizza to a lamb & pearl barley stew.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, the why not indulge it with a chocolate and nut brownie with salted caramel ice-cream or a sweet berry cheesecake with Chantilly cream. Personally, I’m a sucker for a slice of good old apple pie with vanilla custard.

Whatever the occasion; formal, freewheeling or otherwise, The Galmont Hotel in Galway has the food and drink covered, so, what are you waiting for?
