Description

The Panorama Restaurant, at The Europe Hotel & Resort is aptly named because you have amazing views of all that Killarney is famous for. From the Lakes of Killarney to the perfectly kept gardens to the mountains beyond, they are all before your eyes to enjoy as you dine. It’s open for breakfast and dinner with the emphasis on fine dining, highlighting Irish and International cuisine as well as local suppliers.

The restaurant itself is modern and spacious making it a breath of fresh air to be in, as opposed to some of the stuffy fine dining I’ve endured over the years.

The menu of course changes, but, starters at The Panorama may include dishes like a poached fillet of Atlantic cod and mussel velouté, Dingle Bay Oysters or even a superb torchon of foie gras. A beef consomme with short rib ravioli and winter veg is a treat, as is a lamb fillet with smoked Gubbeen crust, burnt onions and a carrot chutney.

For mains, their ‘Butchers Best’ offers meaty dishes from pan-fried fillet steak, to prime Irish Angus beef to a roast loin of Kerry venison. There is such superb local produce available in the Kingdom.  If you can't agree on viands there are of course some great dishes ‘From The Sea’, such as the king of fish, pan-fried wild Atlantic Turbot, served with a smoked oyster fritter, leeks and black garlic; or roast monkfish with chorizo gnocchi and a mixed bean cassoulet; or indeed scorched hake with roast cabbage and red pepper curry. There is always superb fish available.

For a real treat, try some of their Cromane Oysters, available, by the ½ dozen, classicly prepared with shallot vinaigrette and fresh lemon, or served Japanese style with cucumber, wasabi, and a soy and mirin dressing.

They also do some lovely imaginative vegetarian dishes like crispy polenta with roast beetroot and honey baked Feta, or a superb mushroom and white asparagus risotto.

Desserts at The Panorama Restaurant are excellent too, so think maybe of indulging in profiteroles filled with salted caramel butter sauce and served with vanilla ice-cream; caramel and coriander crème brulee with a green apple sorbet and fresh fruit; or my old fave of tart tatin with a side of zingy lime ice-cream. Delicious!

So, if you’re looking for a superb meal, in an inviting attractive atmosphere, with some of the best views around, then book a table at The Panorama Restaurant at The Europe Hotel & Resort in Fossa.

Maybe even stay the night…
