Description

Topping the National Geographic's 17 for 2017 Cool List, Donegal is officially the coolest place on the planet, not just for its fab scenery and proximety to the Wild Atlantic Way, but for it's warmth and hospitality, not to mention having been a shooting location for the latest Star Wars film.

Perfectly situated for any adventurer exploring or relaxing their way along the Wild Atlantic Way is the Ballyliffin Townhouse in the fab little seaside village of Ballyliffin, Co. Donegal. The scenery here is absolutely to die for with the hills of the Inishowen Peninsula, sandy beaches, abounding rivers and woodland and breath taking coastal views setting the perfect scene for families, couples or vacations with friends.

From the moment you put your foot through the door at the Ballyliffin Townhouse, you know that you’ve landed on a winner. This family run guesthouse, a landmark in the village, offers some of the best service and hospitality around, starting as soon as you arrive, where upon you’re lavished with homemade cakes and breads served with tea and coffee.

The rooms at the Ballyliffin Townhouse, all of which have free high speed WiFi, are tasteful and attractively decorated, and feature, as standard, HD TV with DVD player and access to a library of films, en suite bathroom with power shower, hair dryer, telephone and ironing board, but I recommend pushing the boat out a little further with one of their deluxe rooms which offer all the facilities of their standard rooms along with more spacious environments, that comfortably house massive Super King Size beds, and also include complimentary snack baskets, terrific views and fluffy bathrobes and slippers. If you have the kids in tow, big or small, a PlayStation 3 can be added to your room and a selection of games and extra controllers can be borrowed from reception.

Once you’ve settled in, go check out one of their cosy, comfortable lounges or perhaps nip into their warm and welcoming traditional bar and treat yourself to a drink or two. When you wake up the next morning, indulge in their fantastic home cooked breakfasts, made to order, and which offer everything from omelettes and porridge to fresh kippers, cheese, fruits or their famous Donegal fry.

Though you may feel reluctant to leave the house at all, there is an assortment of things to see and do, practically on the doorstep. The golfer in the family is well provided for with the fabulous Ballyliffin Golf club, offering 36 holes over two contrasting links courses, one a which was designed by world-renowned golfer Nick Faldo. The surfer too, is in his element in Ballyliffin with gorgeous beaches like Pollan Bay, Tullagh Bay and Culdaff, and lots more coastline from which to hunt for the best Atlantic waves. For the walkers and hikers out there, there’s lots to see, from the Mamore Gap and Glenevin waterfall, to the Doagh Famine Village and plenty of other hill-walks to walk and treks to trek. Nearby, if perhaps you fancy cycling the Inishowen 100, you can also avail of local bike hire or maybe a boating excursion, and, if you enjoy a spot of fishing, that’s easily arranged on or off land.

There is so much to see and do nearby, I couldn’t possibly get through it all, but the Ballyliffin Townhouse is simply the perfect place to stay if you really want to experience all that the Wild Atlantic Way has to offer, while still feeling a little special and pampered.

Go see for yourself!
