Description

“How can you buy Killarney” went the old song made famous by Bing Crosby. Well you can’t of course but, if you know the right places to stay,  you can buy into the best of the Killarney experience for the time you are there.  It is a great town and Kerry people are just brilliant, sassy, canny and fun. Is it any wonder Kerry is called The Kingdom.

Right smack in the middle of Killarney Town, very convenient for restaurants, pubs, shops and art galleries, is the Killarney Royal Hotel owned by Joe and Margaret Scally. Margaret was born into the hospitality business for in the early 60’s, her parents did buy their piece of Killarney in the form of what was the Criterion, originally the old Munster Arms, built in 1900. In the mid 70’s Joe and Margaret took over and, ever moving with the times, the Killarney Royal is now a superbly comfortable boutique hotel. They know what they are about for Joe and Margaret gave Cork City its first 5 Star Hotel – the fabulous Hayfield Manor. They are really hot on their staff providing the best service, without being overly intrusive or obsequious, but they give the best and they expect their people to do likewise – and they do. Joe and Margaret want you to come away from their hotels feeling you have had the very best experience and you will.

The historic building which houses the Killarney Royal lends itself to gracious rooms and each of the 24 bedrooms and 5 suites are the epitome of luxurious comfort and style furnished with lavish fabrics, antique furnishings, large marble bathrooms, twin sinks, WIFI, 24 hour room service – perfect sanctuaries after a hard day’s enjoying oneself and sightseeing, and recovering from the jarvie’s banter as you took your trip in the jaunting car around the legendarily beautiful Muckross Park.

Actually, after the jaunting car ride would be a good time to have a jar in bar – to steady your nerves - in fact anytime is a good time – but it is fun to recap what is probably a lifetime experience – which is what the Killarney jarvies are. The food too is excellent with a choice of two dining options. The Royal Bar & Bistro serves fantastic very well priced casual food from lunchtime into evening. The Candle Room Restaurant also serve lunch and dinner in a slightly more formal arena. Think maybe of pan seared supreme of barbary duck breast, braised red cabbage, mixed seasonal salad & berry sauce or tender roast rack of Irish lamb set on a rosemary and honey scented sweet potato and port wine jus. You will always be sure of a top quality steak with all the trimmings as well as excellent seafood.

Expect the best at the Killarney Royal – you will get it.
