About The Hotel

I had heard a report of Tankardstown House and consumed with curiosity I decided to check out whether or not its charms were exaggerated. On arriving, we skipped up the gleaming limestone steps to the open doors of this restored mansion and estate were warmly greeted by Patricia and Brian Conroy who are natural hosts.

This forward thinking couple have spared no expense in the impeccable restoration work of the main house and seven stylish cottages with patios which are located in the U shaped courtyard. These are no ordinary cottages but sanctuaries of comfort, furnished with the finest antiques, state of the art appliance and bathroom fittings, ever forgiving mirrors, grandmother clocks, even the most trivial details are attended to. These houses offer luxury and style and I could just visualise Pierce Brosnan settling in next door while making a movie in his home territory.

That night we wined and dined and partied in the great house to the sounds of a string quartet. As the fires roared in the main hall, drawingroom and diningroom, we languished on the decadent sofas, admired the sumptuous furnishings and rich rugs on the highly polished floors and we felt maybe we had passed through the pearly gates without realising it.

More of the finest champagne, great wines from an interesting list, and course after course of sumptuous food cooked and served by Patricia and her four charming daughters, Georgina, Roisin, Laureen, and Amber. Brian regaled us with stories of his recent trip climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Later we all retired to our respective cottages and slept like babies on specially imported V1 mattresses. A fresh breakfast hamper was delivered to our door in the morning by Georgina. The guests dispersed for their various destinations – Tattersall’s Sales, Newgrange, Hill of Tara, Dundalk and Drogheda – whilst we enjoyed a spell in the gym and a massage in the Treatment Room.

Later I curled up in front of the fire in my fairyland cottage and helped myself to the generous mini-bar and, on answering the gentle tap on the door, there stood Georgina again with a basket bearing a sumptuous Tankdardstown supper. This is a one of a kind special events venue. It offers total privacy, discretion, and gracious estate living to the discerning guest – all tailored to suit you. If you want to have that really drop dead sophisticated party – this is the place – they have a Party Room which accommodates 50 for dinner or 75 Conference style.

Tankardstown is different – a world of stylish luxury
