About The Hotel
“My house…stands on a lake, but it stands also on the sea – waterlillies meet the golden seaweed. It is as if, in the faery land of Connemara at the extreme end of Europe, the incongruous flowed together at last, and the sweet and bitter blended. Behind me, islands and mountainous mainland share in a final reconciliation, at this, the world’s end”. So wrote Oliver St. John Gogarty in 1927 of his then home.
Spectacularly located nestling between the blue Twelve Bens mountain range and the Shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Renvyle has a tremendous history and it has always attracted famous people from all over the world. The house has been pulled down, rebuilt, burnt to ashes, rebuilt again. It has been home to Donal O’Flaherty, Chieftan of one of the oldest and most powerful Clans of Connaught, and to Mrs. Caroline Blake who was the first to open it as a hotel way back in 1883. But, enough of the past, for Renvyle has been a hotel for all seasons and has always moved with the times and is a stylish destination which is hugely popular with the Irish public, who return again and again for blissful respite and evenings filled with fun.
Situated on a 200 acre Estate, Renvyle has a lake teaming with trout, a heated outdoor pool, a 9-hole links golf course and its own beach. There is clay pigeon shooting, horse riding in season, and buckets of activities and creche facilities during holiday periods. Pets are allowed “within reason” – enquire - for that doesn’t mean Pooch can sit up with his Cartier collar at the dining table! Whilst we list entry rack rates there are fabulous value packages as well as that throughout the year there are Painting Breaks, Murder Mystery Weekends, Fly Fishing instruction, Golf Breaks and Walking Breaks. Sixty- eight bedrooms and eight suites, are spacious and very comfortable with all that even the most difficult guest could possibly desire. Excellent food is based on fresh local produce, Connemara lamb, game, fresh fish.
