About The Hotel

I thought I had lost him. He thought he was in Heaven. We were in the 5 Star Druids Glen Hotel & Country Club on a 400 acre estate in the Garden of Ireland which has not just one, but two Championship Golf Courses – Druids Glen and Druids Heath. Golfers can view both Golf Courses, hole by hole, on their website. Known as the Augusta of Europe, Druids Glen Golf Resort has been host to 4 Irish Opens, the Seve Trophy Golf Tournament, it has been voted European Golf Resort of the Year, and is a magnet for Ryder Cup stars. There is a Golf Academy – a golfer’s dream resort in other words!

Druids Glen was originally the Woodstock Estate dating back to 1600 when it formed part of Sir Thomas Wentworth’s landholdings. Woodstock House, the beautiful clubhouse at Druids Glen, was built in 1770.

We could in fact have stayed in the Druids Glen Hotel forever and just met up for dinner in the evenings because, while he was on the Golf Courses, I was indulging myself in the fab Elemis Spa. There is an 18 metre indoor swimming pool, Whirlpool, Solarium, Sauna, Fun Shower and Mist Grotto, Aroma Steam Room and `Hydrotheraphy Room along with a Fitness Suite, which overlooks the pool area. I am afraid I am a total pleasure girl so indulged in the relaxing massages and beauty treatments. There is also Teambuilding on site. It is also only 35 minutes from Dublin City so ideal for combining both sightseeing and shopping as well. It is also very close for Powerscourt and all the little southside village upmarket boutiques.

Druids Glen Hotel has settled into being a serious resort destination for those who enjoy an all round good time. The décor is modern with Celtic twists and superbly comfortable. The bedrooms are enormous, all at least 38 sq m2, with King size or two Queen size beds, plus minibars, room safes, individual climate control, all luxury facilities, expected of a good 5 Star Hotel. On top of that, if you want to take the sprogs with you, believe it or not you can have two under 16’s share your room free of charge – and if they are under 13 they don’t even have to pay for breakfast – now that is fantastic!!

Food is excellent. There is Flynn’s Restaurant – an upmarket American style steakhouse doing really good Irish beef, seasonal game and freshwater fish, and the popular Druids Brasserie doing excellent popular Irish food including a delcious Traditional Irish Stew with soda bread; Traditional Guinness battered fish, green peas and chips, steaks, and daily specials including a Sunday favourite of Slow Roast Rib of Beef with a rich jus and horseradish cream. If you want casual food during the day it is available in the Thirteenth Bar
