About The Hotel
I am one of those people, as I have said before, who always thinks there is something better around the corner and can at times exhaust my beloved Brendan, and indeed my friends, in that search for that special little place. However, even they will agree that it very often works out well. It was on one such a spin around the West of Ireland, between Galway and Westport, that I veered off the N84 and discovered the Fairhill House Hotel at Clonbur or An Fairche which is in the Gaeltacht. This is really a little gem which has been in the Lynch family for three generations. Situated right smack between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, it is a heavenly spot for all and not just for fishermen. The scenery is powerful and magnificent and draws people back again and again. There is something about the place that revitalises the soul.
While Fairhill has been a hotel for a long time, in recent years it has had a major refurbishment and has twenty spacious comfortable and immaculate bedrooms. Being a relaxed family run hotel, this is the sort of place that people return to year after year and know that they will be welcomed back almost as one of the family “home” on their annual holiday.
There is a great cosy bar which is the scene of many a great night. This is the real Ireland where you will enjoy live Irish music late into the night – unless you have a date early in the morning with a salmon or brown trout in Lough Corrib. Your entire fishing trip can be happily arranged by Eddie Lynch. There are numerous golf courses, the Christy O’Connor designed Galway Bay is half an hour away and there is also Ballyconeely, Westport and Ballinrobe. There is a large drying room in the hotel so you don’t have to bother about that end of things. Of course if you are lazy like me you can just chill on the deck outside Eddie’s Bar with a cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc, some smoked salmon and a cracking seafood chowder – oh and delicious brown bread.
Fairhill House Hotel is in a great location for moving out around the rest of Connemara. It is 12 or 15 minutes from the Quiet Man village of Cong and the magnificent Ashford Castle. You can take off in either direction for Westport, Clifden or Galway, have a lovely day tripping around and come back to your stunning location between two lakes – fab. You can look forward to a hearty dinner at Fairhill – their steaks are renowned and they have fabulous seafood – and pints – and Irish music – genuine warm hospitality. The perfect holiday in a real characterful hotel.
