About The Hotel

Bellinter House is a magnificent Palladian pile overlooking the River Boyne. This is not the country house of the uncomfortable beds, thin tomato and basil soup, no central heating, grand accents and nothing much more to back it up. Nor is it a Country House that is really just a plush expensive hotel. Bellinter is more funky, but not so funky that they don’t have jolly traditional welcoming blazing fires all over the place. Richard Cassels designed the house in 1750 – he also did Leinster House. The Georgian features have been meticulously restored but this Country House not only has a fantastic Bathhouse Spa for rejuvenation and two infinity pools, but a 35 mm cinema, a dedicated kid’s play centre, The Playhouse, and a Games Room and Library for big boys and girls. If outdoor sports are your thing they have a labyrinth of bridle paths and trails to explore as well as private fishing rights to 3 miles of the river Boyne, a gillie to assist, and gourmet picnics. There are also any number of golf courses nearby and all country sports.

Bedrooms are stunning, each individually styled, and all include super large plasma screen TV’s, DVD players, WIFI, mood lighting and Bose sound systems – and decadent drinks cabinets too. So whatever is your fantasy you will find it the grandeur of the Main House, the East and West pavilions, The Stables and the Lean To, not to mention The Ruin – a very smart “Ruin” of course!

The Drawing Room and Bar have modern calfskin chairs and designer pieces mixing with a silver baby grand piano, and stunning vintage sofas covered in purples and other hip colours. There are also some lovely mirrors as well as futuristic installation art and, very futuristically, they have recreated their ever popular Eden Restaurant with fab food in the vaulted cellars. Roast magret duck with celeriac puree is served with warm drunken prunes and Bombay Sapphire jus – a touch of the old colonial types here! The popular Eden Smokies are there as well as Carlingford Rock Oysters with a Bloody Mary sorbet and lime wedges, which I enjoyed followed by delicious panfried fillet of venison, tender and pink, served with an excellent venison sausage on lots of silky mash, drizzled with a thyme and shallot jus, and good crisp green beans.
