About The Hotel
Even the name sounds romantic – you just couldn’t invent it. It smacks of history and romance – crashing waves, lusty thighs, flowing hair - young men and beautiful girls out on the wild stormy cliffs of Clare. What a field day novelist Daphne du Maurier could have had down here writing about her pirates a la Frenchman’s Creek. The historic Ballinalacken House is located in one of the most stunning situations on the western seaboard with spectacular views of the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher, just ten minutes away, and Galway Bay. In the shadow of the ruins of the O’Brien Clan’s 15th c Ballinalacken Castle, the house was built by Lord O’Brien in 1840 as his family home and remained as such for 99 years until, in 1939, it was bought by the present family. The beautiful rooms have been restored to their original grandeur, antiques, lovely cornice work, light fittings, and splendid marble mantelpieces on which to rest your glass of port. All of the bedrooms are lovely. Some have four poster beds for that really romantic visit and there four superior rooms and two beautiful suites...... Food is absolutely cracking ...it may be French style John Dory served with a barigole of artichokes and port whilst supreme of Barbary duck is served on a celeriac puree complemented by Guinness and Fresh honey sauce – now that’s a talking point.Grab your cailin by the waist and go…..it might change your life.
