About The Hotel

‘How can you buy Killarney’, goes the old song. It is a truly special place, which I visit on a regular basis, for you cannot but be revitalised by the views, the lakes; ever timeless yet ever changing, from hour to hour as you look across the water to the mountains – dark and broody one minute, and shining and scintillating the next.

There are more hotels in Killarney than in any other town in the country, and some fabulous hotels at that. Top of the range on all fronts for comfort, luxury, friendliness, and superb food, is the 5 Star Dunloe Hotel.

The Dunloe is a sister hotel of the equally magnificent Europe Hotel, and Ard na Sidhe at Caragh Lake, but has something really different to offer. Set on 64 acres of mature parklands, just eight kilometres from Killarney town, it’s in a world of its own with jaw-dropping views of the Gap of Dunloe and all its mighty beauty. The aspect of the hotel, with its pretty Alpine style window boxes, overlooking the lawns and beautiful Austrian Haflinger ponies, and sheep, transports you into a very different world. It’s a really relaxing place and one of the great attributes too is that your dog can come too.

It has just re-opened after a major refurbishment costing some €18M and to say its facilities and public areas are awesome is putting it mildly. From the double height library area to the plush cool bar to their amazing new The Grill Restaurant, this is a fantastic place.

Furnishings are plush, dramatic and luxurious. Everything is designed for the guest’s comforts. There are superior rooms, garden rooms, family rooms, and two wonderful suites. All the modern luxuries are here, including satellite TV, in-house video, fridge, and sumptuous spacious bathrooms with luxurious toiletries. But, perhaps their most literal creature comfort is their dog friendly guest rooms, so your precious pooch can stay with you and be pampered with a welcome pack of yummy goodies, including a pet toy, and there is certainly enough space for woofser to run around and make new doggie friends.

There’s lots to do at The Dunloe, including complimentary trekking with Haflinger ponies, an indoor swimming pool and indoor tennis. Fishing is complimentary for guests on the River Laune, which flows through the Dunloe Estate. Equipment is provided free of charge and the kitchen will cook the whale you catch for dinner! They can also arrange kayaking, golf, bike hire and falconry for you to experience (chargeable). During the summer, they have an adventure playground for children, and movie nights with popcorn and drinks – the parents can go too.

There is a whole new dining experience too at The Dunloe with its vast contemporary The Grill Restaurant, which is a great addition to Killarney. Breakfast is incredible with everything you could possibly want, including fruits, yoghurts, and cheeses like the wonderful Milleens, and Cahill’s whiskey cheese. The hot food counter includes Eggs Benedict or Florentine, fish of the day, a full Irish with Tim Jones pork sausage, and there’s also a fab omelette station where you can design your own. There’s a gluten free counter offering a hot breakfast, cereals, bread and rolls, plus soy, almond and rice milk. There’s a daytime menu and fabulous evening menu too – read about this on the restaurant side of my website.

This is a hotel that offers the best of all round comfort, food, relaxation and luxury. Don’t forget to enjoy the wonderful afternoon tea, whilst he has a pint and chat with fellow guests – it’s a sociable place too with a variety of live musical entertainment.
