About The Restaurant

Part of the fabulous four star Killarney Plaza Hotel located right on the doorstep of Killarney National Park, The Tan Yard Restaurant is a certainly a great place to eat. Evolving with the seasons, the menus here draw their inspiration from the superb seasonal fare available throughout the region. They take pride in the relationships they’ve formed with butchers, farmers, growers and fishermen, ensuring that what arrives on your plate is always fresh, local and brimming with flavour.

The restaurant itself is a delight to behold with stylish feature woodwork prominent throughout the room, and dangling old-fashioned bulbs plus lush potted ferns and trees as accent pieces to what is undoubtedly a beautiful and refreshing space.

Starters at The Tan Yard include dishes such as Gubeen chorizo and Manchego cheese croquettes with smoked tomato sauce, capers and salsa; Kerry venison carpaccio with cured egg, wasabi yuzu aioli, crispy capers and pickled shallots; or maybe some tasty truffle potato gnocchi with truffle veloute and fresh truffle shavings. Pan-seared Kilmore Quay scallops with Sneem black pudding are sure to please, as are their vegan ‘scallops’ – king oyster mushroom, tempura cauliflower, chimichurri and the added sweetness of a golden raisin puree.

For the mains, think of wonderfully fresh wild Atlantic halibut paired with Annascaul black pudding, Kilmore Quay razor clams, white cauliflower, creamy horseradish sauce, marjoram oil and cavolo nero; or a superb fillet of Kerry venison with squash purée, chanterelle mushroom, potato fondant, blackberries with a chocolate and juniper berry jus. The pan-seared Castletownbere Black Sole is to die for, I just love this particular poisson, while a grilled cauliflower ‘steak’ with Moroccan style bean stew will be of great interest to veggies.

Meanwhile, their prime cuts of Irish Hereford beef will delight the dedicated carnivores, with a succulent selection of rib-eyes, fillets and sirloins (plus top of the range surf n’ turf options of lobster and langoustine), all steaks being served with a choice of sauce and a side order. I recommend the truffle and crispy bacon fries with truffle mayonnaise or maybe the Gruyére mash with crispy onions.

For dessert, treat yourself to a decadent delight, such as their salted caramel mousse bar with milk chocolate, caramel peanut butter, and white chocolate Chantilly; or perhaps a rich apple Tarte Tatin with mascarpone mousse and Cronin’s apple cider sorbet. They have a great drinks menu here also, with some gorgeous cocktails, plus a selection of choice whiskeys.

Nearby, they also have the delightful Café Du Park, located at the beginning of the town, offering tasty all day menus, from breakfast through brunch and dinner. Perfect for people watching, this attractive contemporary space is great at any time of the day.

So, whether it’s a quick bite, a big meal, a sip or a nibble, at the Killarney Plaza, they’ve got you covered on all counts.
