About The Restaurant

The Towers Bar & Restaurant in Westport, Co. Mayo is a fantastic spot at any time of day with its gorgeous sea views, great atmosphere and cracking seafood. The interior is bright and modern having been stylishly renovated, but still retains some classic features like the bar’s cosy snug. There are fitting nautical nods in the decor and great big windows surrounding the restaurant, making the most of its gorgeous waterside locale with panoramic views of Clew Bay, Croagh Patrick and Clare Island. It also features a superb beer garden with lots of picnic tables and plenty of space - perfect for an al fresco afternoon.

Starters at The Towers may include the likes of Killary mussels steamed with a white wine and garlic and finished with a hint of cream; Clew Bay oysters served with homemade brown bread; or Inishturk crab remoulade. They do a great Clew Bay seafood chowder as well, but if you’re feeling less fishy, then dig into a generous helping of their golden fried bbq chicken wings.

For the mains, there’s plenty to choose from, both from land and sea. Their signature 8oz Hereford beef burger is a hearty treat served with crispy bacon, brie, tomato, mayonnaise and twice cooked chips; and their Hereford steak sambo is fab too; but their top tier boeuf is a 10oz Hereford sirloin with sauteed onions and mushrooms. If you’re not one for the meatwagon, they also do a great vegan beetroot burger served with vegan cheese, tomato relish and a beetroot and black sesame seed bap with sweet potato fries.

On to the star of the show – the seafood. There’s lots of different fresh daily specials appearing regularly, but among the most popular fishy selections at The Towers are their lobster casserole served with mussels, prawns, pesto rice and bisque sauce; whole seabream with chorizo and three bean casserole; and baked salmon. They also do an excellent seafood sharing platter burgeoning with fishy delights.

For dessert, there’s plenty of sweet treats to choose from, like a homemade brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce; a forest fruits and chocolate tartlette served with ice cream; or a creme brulee, which also comes with ice cream.

Personally, I’d recommend ‘The Colonel’, a zingy lemon and vodka sorbet.

The Towers Bar & Restaurant are also offering a takeaway service at weekends. For more information, check out their website.
