About The Restaurant

Beautifully situated amid the best of Donegal’s natural splendour is the Mulroy Woods Hotel near Milford. Besides from being a truly great place to stay, food and drink at the Mulroy woods are top drawer as well.

If it’s a casual bite you’re in search of, then their bar and lounge are the perfect choice. Treat yourself to a ‘wee’ tipple in their Wee bar and soak up the fab ambience of this old-Irish country style bar complete with an assortment of bric-a-brac and memorabilia to admire whilst sat by the roaring fire.

Head over then to the lounge and peruse their extensive bar food menu. Starters/smaller bites might include Atlantic prawn cocktail served with homemade wheaten bread; oak smoked salmon; golden fried garlic mushrooms with a creamy garlic dip and a tossed salad; or perhaps a warm goat’s cheese crostini with red onion marmalade & basil pesto, while their spicy chicken wings are particularly good with their fiery Mexican dressing.

For the mains there is always lots on offer, from traditional dishes like a tender braised beef stew with country veg and creamy mash or their roast of the day, to contemporary and international foods such as their signature curry with fragrant basmati rice or even a summer courgette and root tomato tagliatelle with a side of garlic bread. Their pizzas have proved extremely popular too with homemade Italian pizza dough meeting delicious stringy Mozzarella and the freshest of toppings.

For dessert, they do great cheesecake as well as a tasty vanilla crème brulee, but for a real treat, grab yourself a decadent slice of warm chocolate brownie with a hot chocolate sauce and Irish liqueur ice-cream.

For bigger or just more formal occasions, book a table at their fab Harper’s Restaurant, where head chef Lee Vambeck and his team work hard to provide diners with the best that the O’Donnell county has to offer, using only the freshest local ingredients possible. The style of Harper’s is classic, old-Ireland meeting classy contemporary embellishments. Textured handcut stone walls and big ceiling wooden ceiling beams are met by modern lavish furnishing and fixtures making for an inviting and very attractive atmosphere

Starters at Harpers include dishes like potato and leek volute with a crispy hen’s egg, pancetta and rosemary oil; Mulroy Bay scallops with a pig-head terrine, cauliflower puree and pickled sultanas; not to mention their poached and roasted leg of quail with artichoke puree and charred onion.

For the mains, there’s lots to choose from, like an escalope of salmon with a watercress veloute, asparagus, Jersey royal pea and mint ravioli, or a breast of Guinea fowl served with buttered vegetables, herb gnocchi, summer truffle pesto and chantrelles. The carnivore is definitely in luck with an 8oz fillet of McGettigan’s 32 day aged beef with fondant potato, carmelised shallot puree, oxtail beignet and a red wine & veal reduction. For puds they do a fab home-made dessert plate with loads of decadent goodies to drool over.

When it comes to great food in a classical, warm atmosphere, the Mulroy Woods is really tough to beat.

Book yourself a table and go see for yourself.
