About The Restaurant

Ryan’s of Parkgate Street is one of Dublin’s legendary Victorian pubs with wonderful carved bar and woodwork, stained glass features, and the old Dublin phenomenon “the snug” where people could slip away quietly for their pint and not be seen! Ryan’s is a “must visit” place if you are coming to Dublin. It has had many famous people pass through its doors over the years incuding President Clinton, Julia Roberts and Niall Quinn, and they are just the tip of the iceberg. They are renowned for what is reputedly the best pint in Dublin. Now you can not only have the best pint in Dublin but arguably some of the best steaks in the country for there is an FXB Steak and Seafood restaurant upstairs. FXB’s are a family with a great reputation who were always in the butchering business. Now with a number of restaurants around Dublin, they source all their excellent meat from their own farm in County Offaly. Fresh fish is bought in daily and they use the best of fresh vegetables. Starters €7.50/€11.50 include pan fried Dublin Bay prawns in garlic butter with warm crusty bread; buffalo wings; pork and chicken liver pate with orange jam and toasted focaccia. Mussels can be had in small or large portions with bread or fries. ALC mains run from €15 to €28 and include items such as Baby Back Ribs with a baked potato; Beef & Guinness Pie; Fisherman style pie; Fillet of salmon with chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables, baby potatoes and a citrus cream or perhaps with buttered leeks, orange buerre blanc and herb potatoes. They do a great Fish ‘n Chips of Beer battered haddock with home cut chips and tartare sauce – all very reasonably priced – and there is always a “Catch of the Day” option. Bangers and mash will be with onion gravy and they do a great 8 oz beef burger topped with Swiss cheese and bacon served with home cut chips. Steaks as I say are the biz at FXB. They have 10 oz Dry Aged Sirloins and sublime 8 oz Dry Aged Fillets. They also do a great 12 oz Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak with Cajun string onions – I love that. All steaks are served with either homecut chips, baked potato, mash or salad, and a choice of pepper sauce, garlic butter, red wine jus or Bearnaise. If you want to add a “Prawn Surf ‘n Turf” to your steak you can do so for a few euros more. They will also cut a steak as large as you would like which they charge for by the oz. They have a great value 3 course set Dinner Menu at €24.95 with a wide selection of choices with which I don’t think anyone could go wrong. If you are in a position to dine early they also have an Early Bird menu 2/3 courses at €19.95/€23.95 which is available from 5.30 – 7 pm. A 3 course Sunday lunch at €23.50 runs all afternoon from 12.30 to 6 pm so you can take that trip to the Zoo or the Phoenix Park or Croke Park and head then to to FXB’s for delicious roast beef, roast lamb, shoulder of pork with delicious crackling and apple sauce - yum. Wines are available by the glass or by the bottle – reasonably priced. If you are only visiting Dublin for the day – you are also very close to Heuston Station and indeed the Luas.
