Located in the centre of Wicklow Town, Donelli’s Café | Restaurant has been attracting a loyal and regular clientele for the last ten years, who come not only for the cracking food but also for the atmosphere and buzz. From morning to evening there seems to be a constant flow of customers filing through Donelli’s door in search of the wonderful food and attentive service they have come to expect from this friendly and stylish restaurant.
Origionally established as a deli and catering business, Donelli’s opened it’s doors as a restaurant in 2005 and has since gone from strength to strength. Despite shifting it’s focus from deli to dinner, Donelli’s still retains it’s loyal afternoon patronage who have been enjoying the great take away coffee and lunches since the day they opened. Typically available in the afternoon are treats like ovenbaked crostini with chorizo, melty mozzarella and sunny tomatoes or Donelli’s classic Caeser salad with grilled bacon, chicken, fresh parmesan, egg, mixed leaves, tossed in Donelli’s Caeser dressing and served with ciabatta toasts. If you’re in the mood for something more filling try their famous Wicklow seafood chowder served with brown bread or the warm smoked chicken & baby spinach filo tart served with a tossed mixed leaf salad. Delicious.
As evening approaches, Donelli’s morphs from a warm and sunny eatery into a cool contemporary restaurant beautifully illuminated with chandeliers and candle light. The dinner menu at Donelli’s is eclectic with starters including goats cheese bruschetta with roast onion chutney, red pepper and rocket pesto; salt and pepper calamari comes with dressed leaves, lime and coriander aioli; baked buffalo chicken wings come with a Louisiana hot sauce and cooling sour cream dip.
Mains include ovenbaked fillet of hake with marinated Mediterranean veggies, fresh basil and roast baby potatoes; a succulent 8oz Irish fillet steak with buttery mash or handcut chips, mixed peppercorn sauce, garlic butter or bernaise sauce, fresh veg or tossed salad; pork medallions in Marsala cream with baby apples and mash.
Donelli’s offers it’s diners a wide range of sinful treats to tempt them post mains. These include a warm double chocolate mud cake, raspberry and white choclate cheesecake, a light and fruity strawberry meringue roulade and also Granny Donelli’s tasty apple and rhubarb tart.
