About The Restaurant

In a coup that a marketing genius would not think of, Camillo Borza and his wife Jackie, caused a storm in a cappucino when they opened their new Italian restaurant Benito’s in Dalkey by naming it after the former wartime dictator, Il Duce, Benito Mussolini, who ended up hanging by his heels with his mistress beside him. The Borza family have been a long time in the food business in Dalkey but with their new addition the brought style as well as really good Italian food to the heritage town much beloved of celebrities, racing drivers, movie stars, writers, rock stars including Bono. There is always a tremenduous atmosphere just walking around in the evenings. Starters at Benits run from €5.90 to €9.50 including Fior’ di Mozzarella which is fresh Mozzarella drizzled with pesto, topped with anchovies, served with cherry tomatoes and rustic artichoke – just the sort of food I love. There were four of us there last time I visited Benito’s and we had between us delicious Gamberoni fritti, deep fried large Tiger prawns served with tartare sauce; Polpette Casarecce which are Italian meatballs filled with Mozzarella served in a tomato sauce; and two of us shared a delicious Antipasto Misto which was a cracking selection of salami, Parma ham, grilled Italian vegetables and cheese. They do fab 12” pizzas €11.90 - €15.50 with all sorts of combinations including Marinara with tomato sauce, Mozzarella, anchovies, olives, capers and garlic; Frutti di Mare with tomato sauce, Mozzarella and seafood cocktail; Lucifero with tomato sauce, Mozzarella, pepperoni, chicken, and chilli oil. Pasta dishes are €15.50/€16.50 and “Secondi” main course are €19.50/€26.50. We had luscious Tortellini Panna e Prosciutto which is fresh meat stuffed pasta with diced Parma ham in a creamy sauce, and Farfall di Montezemolo which is butterfly pasta in a light rose sauce with chicken and sundried tomatoes. My better half being a spud man had a cracking 8 oz fillet steak which came with a lovely pesto mash and vegetables, whilst I had Pollo Gorgonzola e Spinaci – chicken filled with Gorgonzola cheese and spinach, wrapped in Parma ham - absolutely gorgeous. We finished off with Tiramisu and chocolate fudge cake which were well priced at €5.90. There is a good selection of wines and they also have half bottles which I like to see particularly in this day and age. However, we indulged in a deep rich delicious bottle of Amarone della Valpolicella DOC – Domini Veneti – that is a real treat. We finished off with Limoncello and Sambucas – a really brilliant night.
