About The Hotel
This was a fairly last minute trip to Galway – not like a long planned holiday – we were going to the Galway Film Fleadh in which our animator son had a film showing. We were six, parents, sons, girlfriends, and the concensus of opinion demanded somewhere cool and not too formal. The Huntsman Inn, I thought, absolutely perfect – three cool bars – uber cool bedrooms and great food all day from 8 a.m. until 9.30 p.m. through breakfast, lunch and dinner, and even funky jazz on certain nights.
Located on the outskirts of Galway, within walking distance, the exterior of The Huntsman looks like a row of houses with jaunty well tended colourful hanging baskets and window boxes. The interior has all been converted into a contemporary comfortable area to wine and dine in a manner to suit all ages and styles including al fresco .
The menu includes eclectic popular dishes including an excellent seafood chowder served with homemade brown bread; stirfried tiger prawns on vegetable spaghetti; fish cakes with a citrus dressing. There is something for everyone on the dinner menu from chicken goujons with garlic mayo and homemade fries to chagrilled burger as well as cracking sirloin steaks, Barbary duck breast with sweet potato daupinoise and red cabbage, and a delicious vegetarian dish of layered aubergine lasagne with roast vegetables and mascarpone cheese.
Bedrooms are sleek and comfortable with satellite flat screen TVs, laptop facilities, and anything you could want. There are two suites if you want to do it in style and families are welcome. Breakfasts are excellent with homemade muesli, organic porridge, pancakes, all varieties of Huntsman cooked breakfasts – even a bacon buttie! Herbal teas, Illy coffee – what more do you want!
