Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Adrift @ Dunmore House Hotel

It was the hometown of the “Big Fella” Michael Collins, who grew up in the picturesque Georgian neighbourhood of Emmet Square. Those of you with a gra for Irish history can visit The National Michael Collins Memorial Statue, which was unveiled by actor Liam Neeson in 2002. Rumour has it that Eamon De Valera himself spoke to an audience from the second floor window of No. 4 Emmet Square. The Model village, nostalgically representing the 1940s, is an ideal place to take the children for an afternoon’s entertainment. You can also climb on board the “Tschu Tschu” Road Train which runs from the Model Village to the town centre daily during the summer and at weekends during the winter.

Just 4 kms outside Clon – as it is affectionately known – is Dunmore House - a family run gem situated in the heart of the West Cork countryside. This beautiful hotel is also home to the fabulous restaurant ‘Adrift’. Its décor is bright and fresh with cool relaxing colours filling every corner of the room.  However, what makes Adrift really special are its idyllic panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

On my last visit, Starters included a chicken liver pate served with red currant dressing; West Cork crab cakes with coriander and coconut cream and also warm roast pepper with a goats cheese salad. I went for their Union Hall prawns, which were delicious with a lime and apple mayonnaise.
