Our Latest Great Place to Eat - Brasserie On The Corner

Friday 14 June 2013

The City of the Tribes has been raising its head in the foodie arena in the past couple of years with some really good eateries and one of those is undoubtedly Brasserie on the Corner.  There is a lovely atmosphere here, plenty of buzz, excellent service,  and some really good food.

Head Chef Joe Flaherty, who started out as a chef in Renvyle house working under the direction of renowned chef Tim O’Sullivan, has worked for some of the best and most recognised establishments in Galway and having tasted his food, it’s easy to see why. Joe is passionate about food and everything associated with it. His ethos is to create the finest dishes using the finest ingredients and as a believer that everyone should have food that’s prepared to their liking, has no problem allowing customers to tailor his dishes to their own desires.

When I visited, starters included a pressed ham hock terrine wrapped in Parma ham with a pineapple relish, red wine glaze and seasame stick; west coast crab and salmon sausage with chilli prawns, prawn crackers and caper berries; pan fried Irish scallops with smoked bacon, green pea cream and micro cress. Himself went for the beechwood smoked duck breast served with a warm duck cake, date puree, star anise carrot and glazed walnuts, while I went for the in house McGeough’s oxtail and wild herb tortellini with beef and thyme reduction. Both were delicious.
They also had a range of tasty looking brasserie boards, one of which passed us on its way to another salivating diner. It looked fantastic and was filled with all sorts of fishy delights!
