Our Latest Great Place to Eat - Gordon Ramsay at Powerscourt

There was excitement enough when the fabulous Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt Hotel opened its doors at Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, but there was  a frisson of bliss when it was announced that the signature restaurant would be Gordon Ramsay at Powerscourt.  My first visit indeed was on its first night of opening to the public and we gathered together en famille.  I had already been to a couple of Gordon Ramsay restaurants in London including when he was at Claridge's but happily to say we were not disappointed at the Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt.

 I have been there a few times since.  There was a change of Chef de Cuisine and like everything else a change in style since it first opened in 2007 but in 2013 it offers better value than ever for superb food, in elegant surroundings, with superb service.   The room itself is sophisticated elegance with panoramic views of the jewel of Wicklow – the Sugar Loaf Mountain.  What I like too about GRP is that it is in no way pretentious or intimidating – just really good food served in an understated confident manner.

 The food is eclectic but there is an emphasis on using local and seasonal Irish produce where possible.  Starters include Carlingford oysters, paired with organic radish, apple and horseradish cream, whilst Kilkeel goats cheese, is with almond, beetroot, cauliflower, and black truffled croquette.  Roasted quail has ...
