Prominently located, as the name suggests, on the capital’s famed St. Stephen’s Green, plush and luxurious with a menu to match, this American meets Ireland brings together the best of both worlds with all the flavour and style of our cousins across the Atlantic meeting a gorgeous elegant European decor. Throughout the restaurant there are examples too of fine Irish craftsmanship, while in its downstairs bar, aptly named The Oval Office, there are documents and mementos on display of each American president who came from an Irish background.
Starters at Shanahan’s are focused on the surf end of the surf n' turf dynamic and include the likes of their fabulous iced jumbo shrimp cocktail with spiked tomato horseradish sauce and lemon, or perhaps sizzling black west coast mussels with shallots, garlic, herbs, fresh lemon and butter. You might see broiled Galway Oysters Rockerfeller with spinach, smoked bacon Pernod and Hollandaise, or a Castletownbere crab salad with tomato, cucumber and a herb mayonnaise. A classic Caesar salad is always popular, as too are soup options like potato with sweetcorn and chilli salsa.
