‘I thought I was going to have an easy Sunday, but you threw us a curveball,” said chef Keith Boyle of The Bridge House restaurant in Kilkenny, which is part of, but separate to, the River Court Hotel. “You’re our very first walk-ins.” I’d actually had a reservation for a couple of weeks hence, but driving back to Dublin from East Cork on a Sunday morning with a friend, I remembered they did lunch at the weekends and thought we’d roll up and try our luck.
Keith and his wife Carmel, who is front of house and sommelier, previously had the Restaurant Lady Anne in nearby Castlecomer, which opened just prior to Covid. However, having moved now into town to the stunningly restored 18th-century Bridge House, in the shadows of Kilkenny Castle, it feels like Keith’s found his niche.
