In her famous 1953 hit, the sultry-toned Eartha Kitt sang: “How would you like to be, down by the Seine with me? Oh what I’d give for a moment or two, under the bridges of Paris with you .” It went on to be one of those immediately identifiable background movie themes, played on a warbly accordion, conjuring up kitsch visions of a man in a Breton-striped top and beret, smoking a Gitanes, to signify the romantic City of Light.

Anyway, Emily might have been in Paris, but Lucinda was in Dublin, ensconced under a bridge on Grand Canal Quay, in a softly lit tunnel at Osteria Lucio. With the rumbling Dart rolling overhead, I was enjoying the stunning fare of Ireland’s best-known Michelin-starred chef, Ross Lewis. At that moment, I thought, Emily can keep Paris — this is as good as it gets.
