Leitrim launches new tourism brand as one stop shop for visitors

‘Leitrim – explore, experience, enjoy’
supported through social media and national and print advertising campaigns

19th August 2010- A new tourism brand for county Leitrim was launched today to act as a one stop information shop for visitors to the county supporting the county’s thriving tourism industry. The new entity ‘Leitrim – explore, experience, enjoy’ is aimed at reaching out and providing a variety of informational portals to the wide variety of visitors both domestic and international who visit or are considering visiting the county in the future.

The central platform for ‘Leitrim – explore, experience, enjoy’ is its new website www.enjoyleitrim.com <http://www.enjoyleitrim.com> which is supported by social media profiles on both Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/leitrimtourism) and Twitter (@leitrimtourism). The launch of the new tourism brand is also been supported through a focused national and regional radio and print advertising campaign during August and September.

Speaking on the launch of ‘Leitrim – explore, experience, enjoy’ Joe Dolan, Chairperson, Leitrim Tourism said, “We are delighted to officially launch the new brand. Over the last number of years Leitrim’s tourism industry has competed very effectively both nationally and internationally and the redevelopment of our tourism brand is the most effective way to support our stakeholders in Leitrim tourism and of course the wide variety of visitors who come to Leitrim every year. ”

Leitrim as a county and tourism destination has been to the forefront of the Nation’s attention over the last number of months with the recent wedding of Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman and this has resulted in a flood of interest from prospective visitors.

Detailing the wide variety of visitors who visit Leitrim, Sinead McDermott, Tourism Officer said, “The new brand and its platforms are aimed at our complete visitor audience, from young, free and singles looking for weekend getaways, to families searching for affordable holiday’s right across to a more mature audience in search of nature, history and relaxation. With the launch of ‘Leitrim – explore, experience, enjoy ‘ we are encouraging all of these visitor audiences to visit our website or become fans/followers on Facebook and Twitter and learn a little bit more about Leitrim as a visitor destination. To celebrate the launch we will be running a number of online competitions with free weekends on offer for some lucky winners.”

Over the summer period, Carrick on Shannon in Leitrim has been a hive of activity as along with Emly in Co Tipperary, it is currently competing in the 2010 Entente Florale Competition. Entente Florale Europe is a European competition for Towns and Villages.

The aim of Entente Florale is the improvement of the quality of life for local, urban and village communities. To this end the competition fosters; the greening of towns and villages, flowers, shrubs, green spaces, parks, development which is environmentally and ecologically sensitive and educational and communication initiatives which promote environmental awareness.
The results are expected in September and Carrick on Shannon remains on tenterhooks after a busy spring and summer with The Local Authority working in conjunction with the tidy towns committee working in conjunction to redevelop floral displays, heritage signage, landscaping areas and water side parks.
